All About Poppy Rose
We are a mother /daughter partnership, Ann & Louise, specialising in handmade loveliness & quirky, often vintage/retro inspired gifts and homewares. Poppyrose originated in 2011 when we decided to try and turn our respective hobbies into a small(tiny!) business. We began making things and trading at local craft fairs, gradually increasing our ranges.
In 2013 an opportunity came up to test trade in the local enterprise arcade …a fledgling Poppyrose shop was born in November of that year. Having never run a business and with little experience of retail, this was a steep learning curve; full of stresses, laughter, new experiences, meeting lovely people, gaining a sense of purpose, determination & bravery.
We may say brave, others might say crazy but almost a year to the day we opened our own lovely shop . This exciting development is enabling us to showcase our own handmade loveliness, that of an increasing number of local makers and some carefully chosen stock which complement our own ranges. ALSO come early 2015 we plan to run a range of workshops/classes in sought after craft skills.
We remain passionate about what we create, especially working on personalised and bespoke orders.
Meet the team
“My main passion is clay, closely followed by wood, especially old interesting pieces. I love to be in the great outdoors, in the woods or beside the seaside collecting stones and other treasures. My interest in clay stemmed from visiting a potters shop in Staithes as a child, as a ‘grown up’ I attended a pottery class for many years before trying my hand at teaching pottery. I had some time off to have my children, Poppy and Floyd before embarking on my current adventure running the PoppyRose shop with my fabulous mum.”
“I am a self confessed fabricaholic and haberdashaholic and spend my time away from the shop imagining and creating an expanding collection of gorgeous makes, mainly in fabric and yarn.My hobbies include singing in a local flash mob type choir, shopping for and furkling fabric and enjoying my absolutely gorgeous grandchildren, Poppy, Angel Rose, Floyd and Joseph.”
